Erika’s Wedding Sneak Peek!

•July 4, 2012 • Leave a Comment

Erika’s wedding was on July 1, 2012 in Sonoma, CA – and she wanted to share a few photos with everyone before leaving for her 10 day honeymoon to Tahiti and Bora Bora.  She is officially back to work on July  17th, although the studio is open and staffed in the meantime. These photos were taken by her brother with a point-and-shoot camera – but never fear, she will be posting the professional photographer’s photos once she gets them 🙂

Lots of Behind the Scenes from the Huck Finn Shoot

One of the reasons why love photography is, as the photographer, I get to create whatever reality I want through my use of cropping, lighting,  pose, depth of field etc. – there are million ways to take a picture of the same subject, and it is exciting to share my personal vision.  How that comes into play at this moment is that from the behind the scenes videos you’ll see that our storybook fishing-hole that you see in my final photographs doesn’t really exist!  This little shoot location is right on the side of the road, had ugly heat lamps and other things in the shots, I was constantly waiting for cars to get ou tof my shots, and it honestly doesn’t look all that great.  However, by picking the right spots to put the boys, shooting the background waaayyy out of focus and using  dreamy lighting – I think that we’ve achieved a beautiful, timeless photo story.

Huck Finn Inspired Boy’s Shoot

I came fishing with my nephews at this little spot in the Valley a few months ago, and have been waiting for the perfect photo shoot to be able to go back and use it.  These awesome little models had such fun fishing, and even though included in the location fee were a few fish props, they were insistent that they wanted to catch the fish themselves.  They walked around and around the pond trying to catch one – but wanting to finish the shoot before sunset, we handed them a fish that the owner of the property caught for us (they were  a little annoyed when they were told to pretend that they caught it.)  Leah, our production manager,  came along to assist on the shoot and was delighted when everyone else declined taking home our prop fish!  She didn’t want his little life going to waste, so she said she cooked him up for dinner and said he was deeelllliiiccciiioooouuuss!

Lemonade Stand Kids Shoot

Thanks to our fabulous models Mila, Audrey and Giulianna at Ford Models, our lemonade stand shoot went amazingly!  The girls really got into it and were at one point trying to flag down passing cars and yelling “lemonade, get your lemonade!” No one stopped, thankfully, since our lemonade was really a pretty sickly tasting mixture of orange juice, water and food coloring!

Hyundai Portrait Shoot

On location PR photos are my favorite!  It’s even better when I walk into a business and they tell me “let us know if there’s anything we can help with.”  Hahahah, these poor guys at Wynn Hyundai regretted saying that line to me! I asked them to move cars around the showroom, move around banners and then get me a ladder to stand on – they did it with a smile and I was very appreciative, but something tells me that they won’t be using that line for at least a couple of days! Anyhow, this is the owner of the dealership, and I was on assignment for a magazine.

Here’s another great shoot with our favorite designer Stacia.  This shoot was on location at Trippet Ranch in Malibu – my new favorite spot since it is incredibly beautiful and there are a ton or diverse background options. Here’s the actual lookbook layout that Kim, our in-house graphic designer made.

What it’s Really Like Behind the Scenes of a Kids Fashion Shoot…

•January 10, 2012 • 2 Comments

Wow is it chaos at any kids shoot – but especially when we have 15 little models, their parents, and 10 other helpers around!  I love this type of chaos though, and have a blast shooting and capturing amazing photographs in such a challenging environment.  Here  are some behind the scenes photos from our Twirls & Twigs shoot from this past weekend to give you an idea of what it really takes to capture those pretty pictures.  My favorite part of the video is the dad yelling in the background “Look at the c-a-m-e-r-a!” over and over!  Here’s the video link: http://youtu.be/pVk53iQAVhs
